ABOUT

Captain Howdy’s Flying Circus is a Suspension and Freak show group started
by Captain Howdy
in the early 2000’s.
The name itself “Captain Howdy” is coming from the movie Strangeland, where
Heavy-Metal singer extraordinaire Dee Snider plays a psychopath who kidnaps
people via the internet to performs on them various body piercings and
suspensions. Body suspension is originally a Native American ritual designed to
give spiritual guidance: those who dare to go through the ordeal of having their
flesh pierced and who sustain the fear and pain of the suspension reach a higher
stage of consciousness and understanding. After fasting for three days,
practioners attempting this Rite de Passage are suspended from their chest (o
kee pa) using eagle claws and stay suspended until the skin rips. As they are
being suspended, they are meant to receive “visions” from the gods. Following
this ritual, the child is considered to have become a tribesman.
Captain Howdy’s career as a freak and body-performer started over half a decade
ago when he was asked (he was then working in a renowned tattoo parlour in
Miami, Fl, USA) if he could replace a performer who chickened out at the idea of
performing a freak show involving painful suspensions for a tattoo convention.
Following the age-old tradition, Captain Howdy fasted for three days and
participated in various performances during the event. He performed both the
o-kee-pa but staged also his first crucifixion, -being pierced with nails
through the palm of his hands and fixed to a wooden cross. Following this
life-changing experience, and after a lot of research in traditional methods and
modern primitivism, Captain Howdy discovered the movie “strangeland” which would
change his life forever. Learning from both traditional practioners and modern
pioneers in the field, Captain Howdy transformed and improved methods to attain
higher levels of professionalism, safety,… and pain. Applying these theories to
his most brazen friends and to himself, Captain Howdy was ready to perform and
display new, extreme, forms of self-inflicted pleasures… After more than half a
decade performing amazing suspensions, awe-inducing crucifixions, & every types
of body modification (as a performer and professionally), Captain Howdy decided
his expertise of extreme performance had to be paired with the showmanship and
professionalism of more ‘conventional’ stage performers. To avoid dreary
performances which only initiates would enjoy, Captain Howdy went on to learn
and master countless freak show stunts (human dart-board, fakir tricks, fire
tricks, glass-eating, etc…) which propelled him as one of the top performers in
his field. Nowadays Captain Howdy has put together a team of some of the most
talented people working in the body modification industry and whom he met along
the way, creating the “Captain Howdy’s Flying Circus” to provide the wildest,
craziest, most insane show you’ll see in a long time!
Over the years, Captain Howdy was involved … In numerous documentaries (TV
documentaries for Sky1, for MTV, Channel4, …) or programmes (including some
X-rated suspension on Dutch&Luxemburgese TV!) … In various interviews (TimeOut,
Skin Deep , countless specialised publications…) … Performing for music video
(9days-to-none) Captain Howdy also … performed with the Captain Howdy’s Flying
Circus for music festivals as a performer (TyrantsFest. In Rotterdam, Holland;
Secret Garden Festival England, among others), … organised (sometimes impromptu)
freakshow before concerts (from Metal to Rock to Punk to Indie or Rockabilly), …
mesmerized the assistance as the bouquet final of concerts or … entertained vast
crowd for parties in clubs such as the mayhemic “Halloween Bloodball” of the
TexasChainsawTravelling Picture Show (where he starred in the gob-smacking first
public hanging in the Uk in over 50 years!) in London or in Israel (where he was
the first performer of his kind in the country)
Currently preparing a surgery degree, Captain Howdy is a very professional body
modification artist and has extensive knowledge of the human anatomy, as well as
cross contamination, prevention and sterilisation techniques. Apart from
performing Captain Howdy also arranges Suscon’s (suspension conventions) around
Europe (he was already involved in two successful suscon’s in London and one in
Israel). When not performing, Captain Howdy is also currently working in a
London parlour (prices available on request). His reputation as an accomplished
body modification artist keeps growing and, apart from body piercing, He offers
a variety of modification’s such as scarification, branding, subdermal implants,
tongue splits, surface piercings, genital beading and lingual frenectomy.
